Qld: Police renew appeal for information on killing
BRISBANE, Dec 31 AAP - Police have had a disappointing response to appeals for information
about a man who murdered a woman and raped her 12-year-old daughter in Brisbane last week.
Investigating police fear the man could strike again and believe he might be staying
in a Brisbane home, and may harm whoever is harbouring him.
Despite a number of leads, police spokesman Brian Swift said it was important for anyone
with information to come forward.
On Thursday night the man killed a 38-year-old woman, who worked as a prostitute, at
a home in Capalaba West, in Brisbane's south-east.
He then drove the dead woman's 12-year-old daughter, who lived with her mother, and
handcuffed her to a tree in nearby bushland and raped her.
The woman's 1980 red Ford Telstar sedan was stolen by the man and found abandoned in
suburban Birkdale, near where the rape and murder took place.
The man also was seen riding a yellow mountain bike in the same area.
"It is disappointing that we haven't had a great response so far but I guess it's understandable
given the time of year," Mr Swift said.
"What we are asking for is people to really think hard about the sightings of this
car anywhere between Birkdale and Capalaba West."
He said it was more than likely someone in passing saw a man wearing a bright yellow
helmet riding a bicycle in the rain between 6pm and 9pm (AEST) on Thursday in the same
area.
A post-mortem examination yesterday revealed the woman had died from multiple gunshot
wounds, probably from a shortened .22 calibre rifle.
The girl was treated in hospital for shock.
