Fed: More than 110,000 lodge tax returns by internet

Tax Commissioner MICHAEL CARMODY says more than 110,000 people have lodged their income
tax returns over the internet for 2000/01.

The ATO introduced e-tax, its electronic TaxPack, in the 1999/2000 financial year when
it was used by 120,000 taxpayers.

But Mr CARMODY says that number is set to be exceeded in just the first six weeks of
the current tax return season.

He says almost 100 per cent of returns lodged using e-tax are turned around within 14 days.

The ATO has set a target of 300,000 e-tax lodgment by the end of October.
