Vic: Chief justice calls on judges to understand the media

Victoria's chief justice has called on judges to be better educated about how the media
works to ensure the community understands criminal sentencing.

Chief Justice MARILYN WARREN has told the Melbourne Press Club .. the traditionally
distant relationship between judges and journalists needs some reassessment.

She says judges would do well to tour newsrooms to gain a greater understanding of
news delivery in a digital world.
