TCU forced a second Bracket 1 title game. TCU (54-13) and UCLA (50-15) meet today at 1 p.m., with the winner going to the best-of-three finals beginning Monday.
-- Michael Roth pitched a 3-hitter in his first start in 14 months, and South Carolina scored in five of the first six innings to beat Clemson 5-1 and force a second Bracket 2 final. The Gamecocks (51-16) and Clemson (45-24) meet again today at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to the best-of-three championship round that starts Monday.
Judge finalizes Wade divorce:
An Illinois judge has finalized the contentious divorce of Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, though the messy fight isn't over. Cook County Judge Marya Nega announced her widely expected decision during a brief hearing Friday. Wade says he's relieved the proceedings from his wife, Siohvaughn, are over. Siohvaughn Wade's attorney, however, says he'll appeal on the grounds that the judge finalized the divorce before financial issues and custody issues involving the couple's two sons have been resolved.
Montoya wins pole at N.H.:
Juan Pablo Montoya has found his groove at New Hampshire Motor Speedway in Loudon, N.H. Montoya turned a lap of 132.337 mph and won the pole in Friday's qualifying for the Lenox Industrial Tools 301-- the second straight time he'll start first at New Hampshire. Montoya won his first pole of the season after taking two last season. Montoya is looking for his first career NASCAR win on an oval. Kasey Kahne was second and Kurt Busch third. Mark Martin and Ryan Newman round out the top five.
Giants rookie injured in crash:
Chad Jones, a two-sport star at LSU who was drafted by the New York Giants, underwent surgery for a broken left leg and ankle Friday following a dawn wreck in which his SUV smashed into a pole in New Orleans. "The surgery was successful," said Jones' father, Al, after emerging from the hospital Friday evening. "The rehab is going to take awhile."
Vick not involved in shooting:
Michael Vick was not involved or present when a shooting took place outside a nightclub where he had celebrated his birthday, his lawyer said Friday. Larry Woodward, one of the Philadelphia Eagles' quarterback's attorneys in his federal dogfighting case, said Vick wasn't at the club in Virginia Beach, Va., when the shooting took place just after 2 a.m. Friday outside the club Guadalajara at Town Center shopping center.
Rose in front at Travelers:
Justin Rose shot an 8-under 62, birdieing five consecutive back-nine holes for the second straight day, to take a 4-stroke lead over Kevin Sutherland in the Travelers Championship at Cromwell, Conn. Rose broke the tournament record for the first 36 holes, finishing at 14-under 126. The 62 was 1 off the course record at TPC River Highlands. Sutherland shot his second straight 65. Vijay Singh (66), Corey Pavin (66), Bill Lunde (63) and Charlie Wi (67) were five strokes back at 9 under.
-- Wayne Levi shot a 7-under 65 to take a 1-shot lead over Brad Bryant and Dan Forsman in the Champions Tour's Dick's Sporting Goods Open at Endicott, N.Y.
-- Wales' Bradley Dredge had 2 eagles in a round of 5-under to take a 1-stroke lead in the European Tour's BMW International Open at Munich.
USC appeals NCAA sanctions:
Southern California filed an appeal with the NCAA on Friday, asking that several sanctions on its football program be reduced because they are "too severe" and "inconsistent with precedent." USC appealed only certain aspects of this month's ruling. Among the penalties were a two-year bowl ban, four years of probation, scholarship losses and removal of several victories. The school will accept a bowl ban for the upcoming season and certain scholarship penalties in football but believes the full sanctions were unduly harsh.
Etc.: Nicole Pauly, a Palatine native, a former standout player at Northwestern and member of the Chicago Bandits of National Pro Fastpitch, has been named graduate assistant softball coach at Loyola.

-- Bobby Valentine still may be coming to the Florida Marlins, though just not as quickly as first envisioned. A person familiar with the Marlins' managerial search said Friday that a scheduled interview with Valentine has been put on hold, yet he remains a top candidate for the job.
-- Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Brian Shaw has been given permission to interview with the Cleveland Cavaliers about their coaching vacancy. Lakers spokesman John Black said the NBA champions granted a request from the Cavs a few days ago. Black did not know when Shaw plans to speak with Cleveland officials.
-- The New Jersey Nets traded guard Chris Douglas-Roberts to Milwaukee Bucks for a second-round draft pick in 2012. The Nets announced the deal on Friday, saying they will receive a pick the Bucks obtained from the Bulls.
-- Rod Thorn is giving some mixed signals about his future as president and general manager of the New Jersey Nets. Thorn gave a cryptic "we'll see" response and then laughed Friday when asked when he would sign a new contract and how long he intended to stay on the job.
-- The Charlotte Bobcats made a one-year, $6.2 million qualifying offer to Tyrus Thomas, making the power forward a restricted free agent. The move will allow the Bobcats to match any offer Thomas gets from another team when free agency begins next week. Thomas said on Tuesday he wants to sign a long-term deal with the Bobcats.
-- Pitcher Eileen Canney made her first appearance for the United States, leading the Americans past New Zealand 12-2 at Caracas, Venezuela, for their second straight victory at the world softball championships.
