James Franco surprised to get Oscar host job


      Los Angeles, December 21, 2010 (PTI) -- '127 Hours' star James Franco says he was surprised to get the offer to co-host the 83rd Academy awards with Anne Hathaway but the actor says he is not nervous about the job. The actor, who may also notch up a nomination for his real life portrayal of real-life mountain climber Aron Ralston, says he had a vague idea that Oscar producer Bruce Cohen wanted him for the ceremony but did not know that he would be offered to host the entire event. Franco had worked with Cohen for 'Milk', the Entertainment Weekly reported. "When he asked me to host, I was very, very surprised, and my initial reaction was 'No'. Then I thought about it and I thought, well, why not? Because I'll look bad? Well, I don't care," the 32-year-old actor said. Franco has no clue what he will do during the February 27 ceremony but one thing is sure, he is not going to be nervous even if things go wrong. "I'm front and center, but... I feel confident. I'm happy to take the criticism. 

     Even if it's 'The Worst Oscars Ever,' I don't care. It's one night of the year." Franco said he accepted the challenge because many people around him thought it was a bad idea as he may also be nominated for the Best Actor. "When we finally met and discussed it in person, all my representatives were saying, 'No! Of course not!' So that always sparks something in me. So I said, 'Yes, of course!' Because that reaction that they have is based on conventional wisdom of what makes a good career. And that can be boring ? really boring," said the 'Spider-Man' star. PTI BK BK 12211356
